Fiji’s Cabinet has appointed Fisheries and Forestry Minister Alitia Bainivalu as the Advocacy Champion for the Commonwealth Living Lands Charter (CALL) strategy.

The charter, adopted at the 2022 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Kigali, aims to protect global land resources, tackle climate change,biodiversity loss and land degradation or desertification, and promote sustainable land management.

Bainivalu will collaborate with advocacy champions from the Pacific, including New Zealand, Tonga, Australia, and Samoa. She will also lead the thematic working group on “Indigenous People and Local Communities and Climate Resilient Development”.
