Living with rising seas in the Pacific Islands

As the oceans continue to rise due to a warming world on the coastline of the Pacific region, island residents have not given up hope. They try to find a way to adapt even with limited resources.

Moce Islanders from Lau Group in Fiji, for instance, have to leave the land their families have lived on for generations. Jared Koli, a journalism student from the University of the South Pacific (USP), files this story from his journey to the Korova Settlement in Fiji.

Jared, also a member of the Pacific Environment Journalists Network, participated last July 23 on the Mobile Journalism Workshop on Environmental Reporting organized by the Internews’ Earth Journalism Network and the USP. The workshop introduced the principles and techniques for using mobile phones to produce video news stories on environmental and climate change issues.
